My mom used to be a house painting contractor and a window cleaner. She would be in a store with her paint clothes on and a dude would ask her (in a surprised tone of voice) if she was a painter. All of us would be thinking that no way in hell would they ask a dude painter that. She would come up with a witty comeback like 'no, it is just for fashion.' or something. It really annoyed me. Do any of you know why they didn't use their brains at all?

Let's not take this out of context. It's not just guys who do this. Everyone asks stupid questions.
Just yesterday night, I was up and my wife said to me, "you're not asleep?" Well, no, duh.
The Blue Collar Comedy Tour has a whole montage of people asking stupid questions like these.
Person stands at a bus-stop. Another person asks, "Waiting for a bus?"
Doesn't have to be a male or female. Everyone has moments of stupidity in their lives.
It's just those unusual moments in life that spark this.

I am a female electrician & I get asked all the time.Men can be so rude. & no I am not gay. I work outside the 'BOX". If they cant handle it,I tell them if you want sympathy its between s**t & syphillis in the dictionary.lol. Not all men are like that. I know my job!

well guys usally expect men to do work besides cooking and cleaning and some guys are smart and they know that a women can do anything a man can do but maybe even better!

ur question is based on stereotypes...painters are usually men so most ppl r ssurprised wen they see a women doin it....happens for both sexes...male nurses for example...its life
