When i drove to college today i noticed that its smelled of antifreeze...im not sure what that might mean but when i returned to go home from class my car (when stopped) would smoke or steam....my thermometer showed that it didnt over heat. the suggestion was made that i may be low on radiator fluid.

thanks to all who reply to this.

If the smell is bad inside the car it's probably the heater core or the hoses that connect it. Check the hoses and if they seem OK put a can of Bars-leaks or something like it in the radiator to seal small leaks.

Don't be fooled by your temperature sensor... If you have lost a lot of coolant, the probe will often not work properly, so make sure that your coolant is topped up.

check and replace all coolant hoses as needed. if it smells only inside the car, most likely cause is a bad heater core. hope this helps.

it sounds like you may have a coolant leak, I would get a coolant change and/or fill up the reserve with extra coolant.
