Teach him that smoking kills. It's not just his health in limbo, but the health of everyone he smokes around. Take away all of his privileges for a few weeks, and pay attention. You can smell smoke from a mile away.
It is good that he got caught. Now maybe you can get him to quit.

YOU are his parent. What did the school do? Is he suspended? expelled? If he is suspended I suggest putting him to work around the house. HE can do the laundry, HE can dust and vacumn, HE can clean the toilet and tub, HE can mop the floors. At least that is what I would have done had my daughter ever been suspended from school. That way I wouldn't have to do it all when I cam home from work to face a lazyassed kid who watched telvision and played on the computer all day...if he has a computer in his bedroom PULL IT OUT. Kids don't need computers in their bedrooms, to begin with...nor do they need televisions in there bedrooms...It's a BEDroom not entertainment center.

1: punish him: make sure he knows what he did is wrong.
2: sit him down and make sure he knows the dangers of smoking.
3: ask him why. make sure you get a reasonable answer and now just, "I don't know."
How old is he? he might be giving into peer pressure a little too easily. If he gets caught again, or acts like a "bad boy" make him talk to a counselor.

how old is he? Is he a gradescholer or middleschooler. If he is one fo these age groups I think you should sit don with him and explain smoking and all the cons.....You can't chase him down and make sure he's not smoking cause if he wants to he will, believe me..I smoked from age 13 and hid it for 3 years from my parents...you get real sneaky and real inventive.
You need to decode on your course of action and stick to it.
I know a mom who told all of her kids friends that if they caught him smoking and had proof such as a pic on their camera phone..etc.. she would pay them 10 bucks to tell her, and if he was caught he was grounded for a month..no names were ever given to him so as not to out his tattling friends but, after about 3 months in groundings he never lit up..LMAO..It was extreme but, cancer ran in their family very heavily.
Decide your course of action and stick to it.

teenagers today dare to try anything that is new to them. smoking is also one of the things they feel curious about, and want to try it.
my advise to you is to persuade your son to quit smoking. smoking can get him addicted, and if your son is addicted to smoking, do not give up in helping him to quit!
in the long run, if your son continues to smoke, his health will be at risk. smoking in school is a serious offence, so make your son come to his senses.
if not, you would'nt want him to have a bleak future just because no school would accept him.

take away privileges - he's doing something stupid and wrong
We had rules in our home and if the kids wanted to live here they had to obey our rules. Parents are required to provide a roof over their heads, clothing and food - nothing else. It's tough love but it works.

ground him. tell him he is not allowed to use the phone, computer, video games or go out anywhere until he is ungrounded. you need to find out who is supplying him with the cigarettes and file charges against them for contributing to underage smoking. this should get it across to him not to be doing these kinds of things. hope this helps. good luck.
