ANY human being should adopt a child yes. However, it is so incredibly hard to get through the process of adoption for anyone. If only the laws made it harder to have one of your own perhaps there wouldn't be so many children up for adoption to begin with. All states should allow adoption by EVERYONE WHO IS CAPABLE!!! GRRRR! what sort of a question is this anyways?

Yes gays and lesbians should have to undergo the same analyis that "straight" people undergo. I assume we are talking about foster children here. Wards of the state. On the whole these kids have seen so much abuse from "straight" men and women.
To assume that a gay person is more likely to be abusive to a child is naive. Of course we live in a country full of it so - oh well.
How in the heck is morally wrong???
As some schlub above proclaims!?!!?
If you have the means to care for a child in state care - and you do nothing is that not morally reprehensible in itself?!!?!?
Did you guys see the other answer up there where someone said "You need a license to breed" my god how brainwashed is a person to think something like that?!?!?!?
This question may be related to a hot issue in Europe right now, the Christian Coalition there and the Muslim leadership have joined forces to place an injunction against legislation that would allow same-sex couples to adopt. Finally something they agree upon!!! The jewish leadership released a public statement saying as long as the couple were found to be admissable, they had no issues with it. They probably just couldnt stand agreeing with the Muslim guy.
Oh well - I just gotta keep telling myself - things are getting better.

Yes, simple answer. We live in the United States where all men and women are equal. I am straight and see no problem with gays and lesbians adopting as long as they can properly care for the child. I have seen studies and videos about gay and lesbians parenst who adopt andit has no negative impact on the child. People need the word equality. Not allowing gay and lesbians to adopt is going against everything this country was founded upon. You cannot use religion as an arguement either because of the seperation of church and stat, if we are talking about this from legal standpont.

Of course. With how very many children there are in the world it would be an excellent idea for more couples to adopt. All that matters is that the couple is stable and loving so that they can provide the best environment for children. That's true for any couple, gay or straight.

Personally, I don't believe so. But I'm not just saying that about gays. There are plenty of straight couples that shouldn't be allowed to adopt, either.

Whether a particular homosexual "should" adopt depends on that individual....as it does for heterosexuals. Whether homosexuals as a class of persons should be permitted to adopt, however, is a different question, and I believe they absolutely should. Heterosexuals and homosexuals should be subject to the same standards for adoption -- in an oversimplified nutshell, if a competent adult of sound mind who is caring and able to provide a loving and safe home, etc. for a child....s/he should be allowed to adopt.
I have never understood coming out on the other side of things. Let's assume for the sake of argument that homosexuality is morally wrong (I don't believe it is, but let's assume that somehow the matter has been unequivocally settled). To come out against permitting homosexual adults to adopt children is saying that those children will be better off shunted around in our foster care system than in a loving home. To those who think that's true, I have to ask: have you ever spent time in the child welfare system? I'm guessing not. Before anyone argues in favor of keeping our kids in that system rather than permitting homosexuals to adopt them, they really need to examine that system closely. If they do, and still come out in favor of the system over homosexual adoption....well, I'm willing at that point to accept that we just disagree. Because even if you think homosexuals are morally aberrent, it seems to me a far, far superior system that allows homosexual adoption and allows children to be loved and educated and to grow up into adults who (if homosexuality is so wrong) will be capable of coming to that conclusion themselves.
And as for private placement adoptions: If I want to place my child up for adoption, privately, and choose a gay couple as the adoptive parents...to suggest that the law should prohibit that strikes me as insane.
As for the worry that they'll be somehow "turned" into homosexuals....well, that's one that I've never understood. If sexuality were contagious, heterosexuals wouldn't have gay children. In fact, I think it's safe to say that the whole world would be straight. But, it ain't. Allowing homosexuals to adopt will not result in an abundance of "gay babies. And as for homosexuals somehow forcing their sexuality on their children and forcing the idea that homosexuality is okay...there's plenty of the opposite position out there that will also influence the children -- just look around. In any event, growing up believing that it's okay doesn't make you gay (just ask all the straight people who think homosexuality is fine).
Query: what's up with the person who says in her answer that people need a license to breed? (She doesn't say they should....she says they do....) Of course, perhaps they should need a license -- without so many moronic, abusive, and/or neglectful people out there having children, there wouldn't be so many children in the child "welfare" system in the first place.

Gays and Lesbians should be allowed to adopt. They must go through the same process as straight couples, and be able to prove that they can provide a stable and secuyre life for the child.

Yes, they are just as loving as straights. I believe in all 50 states it should be legalized, though it already is in 46 of them, and only 1 (Florida) explicitly bans homosexuals from adopting, the other 3 ban unmarried couples from adopting and ban gays from marrying. So, reverse the ban on marriage and we'd have 49 states with legalized adoptions; it's more common than you think.
