If you're in Louisiana or Florida, sure. If you're in Minnesota or Quebec, uhhhhhhh.....

They may be native to some parts of California, but more likely, with California's taste for exotics, it may be someone's pet that escaped or they turned loose.

Rub his belly and he'll go to sleep. Then you can scoop him out with your strainer net and dump him over the fence in the neighbor's yard.
