I have always wondered what is it about getting drunk that people find so much fun. Im 24, I do industrial design, paying my own home and share it with my girlfriend, but never had any alcohol,and a lot of the guys around my age that I work with are always talking about how drunk they got over the weekend and then drove around town at night, and they express it like its a major achievement in life, and I would like to know why getting drunk is such an achievement for them, they dont exactly ridicule me for not drinking they just say that I wouldnt be very fun at a party, and I totally agree. I know how to have fun without drinking or getting high, and when they ask me why I dont drink, I say that it makes me stand out, it takes guts to not drink in a world full of drinkers.
So why is getting drunk such an achievement for those of you who drink?

Good for you! Your parents and your girlfriend must be proud of you. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders, and are very mature for your age.
It's not at achievement - but an empty way of life. My 18yr old is at the stage where he thinks it's cool - I pray it is a stage he will outgrow.

people who drink have alchohol engraved on their brains. I guess its something to talk about just to kill time. They talk about it because its a major part of their lives. its like if you ask an alcoholic how their day is, then they would probably respond by saying i need a beer. and then an alcholic subject might be brought up in the conversation.

Some people like to drink just so they can say and do things they normally wouldnt. So they have an out so to speak.. oh that wasnt my fault cuz I was drunk.

I drink when I am out in town with my girls, for the buzz, not to get drunk.
What can I say? some people just think its fun to get drunk. thats all.
I personally prefer getting buzzed! :)
