I wasn't aware it was...I think this is a fable the Americans tell them selves. It is part of the collective delusion they have that the 'American way,' whatever that is, is the only way and that all other cultures are in some way inferior and long to become 'little' Americans given the chance. Most people are proud of their own cultures and have no wish to be American clones.
I hope the Chinese when they become top nation don't fall for the same fallacy but I expect they will, after all the British in the 19th century laboured under the same delusion.
There are things we like about America, things we are indifferent too and quite a lot we hate. But envy no I don't think so.

That's a gross exageration with a small amount of truth.
I will answer towards the smidge of truth buried under the bs phrasing of the question.

Are people in East LA jealous of people in Beverly Hills?
Probably.

Do factory workers in Flint Michigan feel exploited by rich people in Detroit? Yes they do. For one thing America's own PR campaign about being the land of opportunity has gone haywire.
It has really blown the reality of it all out of proportion - it's so bad we in this country believe it ourselves...
Another aspect is American business' have spent the last 40 years finding the cheapest sources of international labor and taking whatever measures needed to keep that nation from advancing economically. We gotta keep getting our shoes made for 25 cents if the American business man is going to be able to finally sell them for a 2 thousand percent markup over here.

That's capitalism baby!
And we rock the house at it.
We strip mine in other countries, we get the most lucrative energy contracts, we don't export anything but movies and music! We import everything - cause the rest of the world is our labor force!!!!

hahahahaha!!!!!

It does make me kinda proud to be an American when you look at it like that. Proud and horrified. And kinda sleepy also.

Another point is of course it's uneducated masses in these foreign countries that have never travelled abroad that are spewing their ignorant points of view they picked up from hollywood movies - just like the uneducated americans with preconceived notions about places like france or ireland - etc...

You can push other countries around and us Brits, French and Germans can't !
Lovely big country, nice lifestyle. Not nice for those at the bottom of the pile, imo. Us Euros have watched loads of US films and it does look like a more glamorous lifestyle. There's lots going on over there.

Is there any evidence to support your claim that the "world" is jealous of Americans?

If we were to base a judgement on your writing style, we could clearly rule out the quality of education as a cause for envy.

Jealous????

You have to be kidding me!!! I wouldn't want to be an American, in America or associated with the damn country. So don't start thinking that everyone is jealous of you! Seeing as we are your allies in the war we are afraid of you, all this 'friendly fire' is killing more of our men than the Iraqis!

Hang your head in shame for thinking that anyone would be jealous of your, you egotistical, self centred hateful nation!

Hmmmm... how long until this answer gets reported???

thats one of the reasons why we are not really popular with the world right now- that mentality that you have right there. its sad to say a good amount of americans think like that. there are still a couple of itelligent americans among us though. you are definitely not one of them.

I don't think it's "jealousy." I think too many people mistake confidence for arrogance. Americans, overall, are confident people. Many people from other countries are satisfied with being told what to think or are worried about what others think of them.
