no it should fit tight in the rubber sleeve, which fits on the metal runner.

There is usually a metal plate, the shape varies, that is glued to the glass and can be found with a metal wire attached to it. It is possibly lying loose somewhere inside the door panel, or maybe has snapped. Sometimes the plate is held in place with the glass by a nut and screw.

You will need industrial strength glue if you can find the plate as there is a lot of pressure put on it to raise and lower the glass, so ordinary super glue and the like is useless for this job. You should be able to see where the plate was glued to the glass. If you know a friendly mechanic he/she might fix it for you.

From my own experience many years ago none of the major autoglass fitters would help although if I needed a new window fitted they glued the plate to that. It's a case of money talks.

Ideally you should not open the windows in winter, especially if they are frozen as there is a possibility of the plate and glass parting company as most glues do not tolerate the cold too well.

Hope this helps.
