What's the security like in US schools?

Question

Here in the UK its non-existent, but I heard you guys have like metal detectors and things?
Is that right?
All we have is a big gate and a fence!!

It depends on what area your school is in. I went to school in the suburbs and we still had police in our school, this was mostly due to drugs rather than violence. If you go to inner-city schools then yes, there are metal detectors and armed officers EVERYWHERE. Like I said, it just kinda depends on where you live and what school you go to.

Some schools have metal detectors...but usually only in bad neighborhoods or in schools that have a history of bad things happening. We don't have metal detectors at any of the schools in my school district. Actually I've never seen one before except for in a couple movies that take place in the US. We only have fences around our elementary schools since they're the only ones with recess. Sometimes at the middle schools and high schools we have police dogs walk the halls with officers to smell around the lockers just in case anyone is hiding drugs. And we have a school police officer thats there everyday. That's about as intense as it gets.

Not necessarily. We don't have much of an income to spend on metal detectors, etc. My middle school (I'm 12) doesn't really have any security whatsoever. The only protective thing we have is that we check for student IDs. If a stranger comes and he's not from this school, bye-bye he goes. Now that I think about it, our school DOES have bad protection. My friend was just stalked by this guy. She saw this dude taking pictures of her while she was walking in the hallway. Good thing she told the principal.
