T-M-J. Temporal Mandibular Joint? I think that's what it stands for. Anyway, this joint connecting your jaw to your skull is very unique in the way it allows you to move your mouth, chew, talk, bite, suck, etc. If you are chewing gum everyday (as I did), this aggrivates the muscles around this joint which can hurt and then cause a clicking or a popping noise when you chew.
Back behind where the jawbone and the skull meet there is a small round bone that sits back there like a tiny kneecap. If the tendons are stretched too much then this bone can dislocate and once it's out of whack you have to work on stretching the tendons to be able to open your mouth wide enough to eat! Trust me it's no fun.

I can tell you from personal experience that it can lead to TMJ.. and that's something you will likely have for the rest of your life once it has developed.
