I am English but I think that care for the elderly and sick should be free. There are many people getting free NHS care who have not paid into the system and most old people have paid all their working lives. I would also like to see them treated kindly which they do not seem to be at the moment. Whoever thinks we are a 'caring' (hate that word) nation should hang their heads in shame. I hope you are listening Patricia Hewitt.

I'm Welsh not Scottish but as far as care for the Elderly goes - anywhere in the UK I beleive it should be provided on the NHS free and without means test.

Most elderly people have worked their arses off all their lives to pay into this country's economy. But there are plenty of East Europeans coming over here and getting all they want on the NHS for free without ever contributing anything and British people who have never worked getting all their care free.

No the great majority of the elderly and infirm have contributed to society in England as Wales well as Scotland and we are all morally obliged to care for them.

Why should it be means tested in any country.
People who are old enough to qualify for personal care come from a generation that believed in working hard for a living. going out in the world and doing there bit for society. They've earned the right for a little return on all there years of enhancing the world that you and i live in now.
they are the reason you have all the luxuries you take for granted, like....oooh, i dont know, helping to win the war for a starter.

Daisy do you think Hewitt is interested if she was she would have acted before now I think its a disgrace how the old folk who saved the country for her to have a well paid job are being treated i feel ashamed when i read about it. What are these ministers doing certainly not the job they are paid handsomely for

hi i don't think it should be means tested, after all they have worked all their days why should they have to end up selling their homes so they can be cared for, it is so wrong, in my experiance it is often cheaper for the client to go private for personall care in their own homes, it is a disgrace that the government gives out a measly pension then takes it of them so they can be looked after.

Taxgrabber Brown has patented means testing, unfortunately it never seems to apply to his countrymen - the Jockanese.
