If I were you, I would stay away from these types of people. You will find out that they are all over around you and you don't even know it...sometimes is someone close to you that you love (like your mother, wife or friends) and you end up doing what they want just because they cry, or because they use fear tactics, or promise you something that you want and end up falling for it. Guys also can be manipulating as well, so we can't just assume that women are that way.
These people are known for not taking accountability and responsibility for their actions and they will give you nothing but headaches, stress and trouble. Two books that helped me a lot dealing with this type of people and identify that type of behavior is "Why is all about you?" and "Emotional Blackmail" both by Susan Forward. This is what I learned from these books to stop their behavior toward you:
You must begin to look at the situation in a new way.
you must detach from your emotions.
You must realize that you are being blackmailed and that it is not appropriate for the blackmailer to be treating them in that manner.
You must make a commitment to yourself that you will take care of yourself and no longer allow this abusive treatment.
You need to see that a demand is being made on you and that it makes you uncomfortable.
You must determine why the demand feels uncomfortable.
You must not give into the pressure for an immediate decision.
You must set boundaries to be able to take time to consider the situation and to look at all of the alternatives to make the decision.
Finally, you must consider your own needs first for a change, in this process.
Hope this helps! Take Care! ;-)

I love how you said it.
The best way to deal with manipulators is to cut the puppet strings.
There is famous quote" "No one is taking advantage of without their permission", so learn to say NO and don;t give them the attention that they want. PERIOD.
You can add that when they learn to adress you in other ways other than guilty inflicting remarks, then you will talk to them again. Tell them that the pity-party is OVER and that that trick will NO longer work on you. Tell them that you want some positive and uplifting conversation and that talking to then is dragging you down. Tell them that you have problems on your own and have enough on your plate to have to deal with someelse's too.
Tell then that you shouldn't feel guilty for being happy or having more than others and that you have earned your happiness and have nothing to be ashamed of. Tell them that people need take responsability for their actions and that they cannot expect for people to take the blame just so they can find validation and self worth.
Good luck

How do you deal with them? Ummm you can try to tell them that it's not all about them.
Never worked for me, but it might work for you.
The only thing that ever worked for me was telling them to leave me alone forever.

Classify them as the average women/wife in America. Then tell them you are not burger king, no they cant have it their way all the time and then turn out the light.
