John or Paul? What about #1 hits? This doesn't include solo stuff.

Songs that were written by either were man were credited as 'Lennon/McCartney'. For example, 'Hey Jude' was written by Paul while 'Across the Universe' was written by John. With songs that were only technically written by one, who wrote the most hits?

I WOULD THINK PAUL DID

They really didn't write together much at all. They would help each other if they got stuck. Here's an example: John wrote "A Day in the Life" except for the middle section, which Paul wrote (woke up, got out of bed...) Paul wrote "Let It Be", "Hey Jude" and "Yesterday". John wrote "I Am the Walrus", "Nowhere Man" and "Day Tripper". Paul asked for solo credit from Yoko on "Yesterday", which John had nothing to do with, but she turned him down!

John and Paul shared all writing credits with The Beatles, so it is tough to tease out who wrote what. But Paul claims to have written Yesterday all by himself (though John is on the writing credit too) and that is the most recorded song of all time. There is a bit ot trivia for you!

That would go to Paul. Yes, the credits say "Lennon/McCartney", but serious Beatle fans know the stories of the origins of many of the hits.

I think Paul did. But you can't beat Lennon's "Imagine" which is the greatest song of all time.
