Some of the people that choose not to have kids tend to act as though there is something lowly and disgusting about those of us who do have kids. Unfortunately, those people get a lot of press. I understand why some people choose not to have kids and I agree with some of the people I have met, they shouldn't have kids. Parents make many sacrifices for our kids and we feel a great deal of pride about those sacrifices. When we look back at ourselves before we had kids, we see ourselves without someone to care for and we look incredibly self-involved whereas we now live for our children's benefit. That reflection can tend to look like selfishness and immature compared to how we feel now so that gets projected onto you. Sorry if we do that, we don't mean it that way.

I think because those that already have children think you are in some way saying something bad about the precious life that they have made. I understand you aren't but perhaps you might want to be careful when you boast how wonderful it is that you are happy you don't have any children. It is one thing when you are asked by one "why don't you have any children?" and you politely respond, "because that is not something i wish to do in my life because....reason". And it is another when you approach someone and boastfully say " i am sooooo glad i do not have any children!".
I have experienced the latter alot and it could be taken offensively to those that are not strong minded.
Just my opinion in the matter.
I will say i am personally happy to those who choose not to bring children into this world. WTG!

They think you're missing some part of life that some think is only filled by children. Honestly, I have kids, but I don't get why some parents are hateful towards childless people. I'm sure you like kids, or have nieces & nephews (or see the nieces & nephews and realize you'll never have any, lol), but some parents feel the need to butt in and tell others how "much you're missing from not having kids". If you don't want kids, then you're just one of those people happier with a dog (understandably). End of story.

I guess I'm lucky - no one has ever given me any crap!
Did you know there are actually support groups out there for people like us? I have no need of them, but just FYI for you if interested.
Anyway, I hope you feel just as entitled to be rude right back (Miss Manners be damned.)
Oops - forgot to ANSWER the question! I guess some people just can't conceive that others could possibly feel differently than they do - especially when most people seem to like kids. They also think that any woman who hits menopause without having experienced the "joy" of giving birth and raising kids will immediately have a breakdown.
And because they think it's important enough that being rude about it is forgivable. After all, is it rude if they're going to save you from a lifetime of regret? lol
Well, bah. I haven't quite reached that stage, but I'm 41 and still have no regrets.....

I think it's such a part of society that you should marry and have kids, then people assume stupid reasons why some people don't. I'm in my thirties and I still don't have kids and I'm not sure if I should have them. I hear all kinds of the "you're not getting any younger" comments from people about it. But I've also had people jealous of my situation since I have a lot more fun than they do. So I just live my life how I want to and if some people don't think it's right, then screw them.

you absolutly right, it does not make u a bad person. Children are a very hard responsibility to take on. No more time for yourself. It takes alot out of you physically, emotionally and mentally-- not to mention i'm sure it doesn't get any better once they get older!!!! I love my child dearly, but I would enjoy to take a quit bath and relax once and a while ALONE!!!!!

It's just a societal norm. Choosing to be different invariably invites undeserved scorn. I'll give you the same advice that Nick Estrada gave to Rob Van Winkle, who then gave it to Verne Troyer: Wipe your *** with it.

I don't think it's wrong if you choose not to have children. I'd rather someone not have children if they don't want them , then someone that doesn't want children to have one and treat them wrong. The only thing I think is wrong is if you have abortion after abortion because you don't want the responsibility of them. That is pretty selfish.

They think we're selfish just wanting to live for ourselves when in reality bringing a child into this world is really what's selfish- the world is overpopulated and having kids just to satisfy your biological clock is (in my opinion) irresponsible.
