both shots are great when hit well. The two-hander is by far easier to perform, and requires far less strength. the single-hander has less power and less control. moreover the two-hander has all of the disguise that you can't get with a one-hander. two-handers can also hit-high balls much more easily than single-handers.
for the best players, they can both be used with the same brilliance. but for us commoners, the two-hander works better.

For pure shot making capability, two-handed is superior. You don't really loose that much reach with the two-handed backhand. In fact, once you are there, you can do a lot more with the two-hander than the one-hander. The two hands make the stroke much more stable as well. Only argument for 1 handed backhand would be the net game. I have not seen a two-handed backhand player with a great net game. That tells me it's very difficult to master that "feel" at the net when you are trying to slam two handed backhands all the time. All the great net players were 1 handers: B.J. King, Sampras, Federer, McEnroe, Laver, Newcomb, Roach, Cash, Rafter, Navratilova.. on and on..

Well i believe the two-handed backhand is the easier one to perform (as most people learn that first). When using two hands you get more power out of the shot and it may be more accurate/stable because of the support from both your hands.
In terms of the one-hand, it may be harder to hit with a lot power with only one hand, but with the one-hand, you can reach farther. Though it may be hard to hit with a lot of power with the one hand, once you nail the technique the one-hand backhard can still be a very powerful shot (Federer!).
I personally like the two-hand backhand more because i'm used to the technique and a power game. If you are a new player i would suggest the two-hand backhand first, and then see later if the one-hand will work for you later.

there's more power on a two handed backhand, but it is much better to improve a single backhand..look at on justine, amelie, and federer's single hand backhand..so awesome

for the best reach and easy to perform the one handed backhand is easiest. in terms of power a two handed. for accuracy i'd say two, but that depends on the person

I agree with the one-handed answers. I use a lot of two-handed just because it's a more secure shot for me but when I want power and a little umph to it, I switch to one-hand...I can really hurt someone with it and find angles I couldn't do with two-handed shots. I feel that the other hand on the racquet just hinders my natural motion.

A two hander might generate more power, but a one hander has more range and versatility, particularly for volleying. Accuracy should not be influenced more by either technique.

Both are good shots, but i think the two handed back is better. You have more control of your shot(accuracy) and its the easiest to learn and perform. The one hander gives you more reach and also its easier to get a good angle with it....but overall i think the two hander is better.
