rbenne, seriously, just shut the f@#^ up.

anyways, yes, it will. We can stop the ozone layer from decreasing so rapidly, but we cannot get rid of the greenhouse that is already there (entirely seperate from the ozone hole itself); we can only stop it from increasing.

Meathook: look better at what I said: WE CAN STOP THE OZONE LAYER FROM DECREASING BUT WE CANNOT GET RID OF GREENHOUSE GASSES.

cfcs are what decrease the ozone layer. The ozone layer keeps out UV rays.

greenhouse gases are what increase the greenhouse efect. They increase the earth's temperatures as if we surrounded the world with a trashbag that grew thicker and thicker (though not that drastic).

You can affect one without the other.

The Earth is relatively large and anything that affects the environment globally takes time to build up and will take time to reverse, if it is possible to reverse. There are still know-nothings who deny global warming or that it is caused by human activity, but scientists who are not in the pay of the major polluters are now convinced it is the case.

CO2 is the primary cause of the current global warming, although its effect was being hindered by the contrail clouds. The immediate result of 9/11 was a cessation of contrails, and a jump in the Earth's surface temperatures. One could imagine an effort to fly more jets to spread contrail clouds more thoroughly, but that would require a lot more jet fuel, and in the end would make things worse.

Such an invention would also have to be highly controllable, since taking out too much CO2 would be worse.

I find it funny that people like slvfreak tell someone to shut the f@#% up and are still misinformed themselves. First of all we can stop the ozone layer from decreasing and it actual replenishes itself through UV light interacting with oxygen molecules.

As far as removing CO2 from the equation its hard to say how much, but there would be some effect. CO2 in the atmosphere contributes from 9-28% of the greenhouse effect(I know that's a broad range, but that what the scientists say). Theoretically if you removed enough then the greenhouse effect would be lessened.

Now as far as how much we can actually effect it. There is a scientist, and I forget his name at the moment but when I find it I'll edit this, who is a man made Global Warming alarmist. He did a study of the potential effects of the Kyoto Protocol and he found that if everyone identified in the Kyoto Agreement followed through on their commitments to lower CO2 production it would lower the overall Earth's temp by .12 degrees C.

Edit - thylawyer Water Vapor contributes up to 70% of the warming effect, so CO2 cannot be the leading cause of Global Warming

I'm not convinced that global warming is such a threat. The Earth's climate is in a constant state of flux. Always has been, always will be, Those species that can adapt, thrive. Those that can't vanish.

Yes. I don't believe that anyone has stated that the level of CO2 is the ONLY factor. Also, I don't believe anyone has stated that the process can be reversed.

For me, it doesn't matter solely because of global warming. I'd like future generations to live in a world of less pollution.

When I was a scout, we had a rule about camping; always leave the campsite better than you found it. Why should we feel like it's okay to leave the Earth worse than how we found it?

Carbon dioxide has nothing to do with global warming. If there weren't CO2 in the atmosphere, the tree-huggers wouldn't have any trees to hug. If the environmentally disturbed really want to save the Earth, they would do the noble thing and eliminate their carbon footprint by killing themselves. Of course they will NEVER do the noble thing.

yeah, because CO2 is not an issue, it's the way ozone (O4) is taken out of the atmosphere. chlorofluourocarbons (CFC's) and other long-chained carbon molecules bind to ozone, making it worthless as a shelter for the earth's atmosphere, creating the global warming effect.

Antarctic ice lives in a intellectually poor dream international and all his comments must be ignored. This disinformationist basically can not make a submit without knocking some different person. I strongly suspect that antarctic ice and dana are an similar entity

That would assume that increased Co2 actually causes global warming, a weak theory at best. so no prolly not, since the last time we had highly elevated Co2 levels was during an ice age

Well its taken a long time to get the CO2 to the current levels so bringing it back down will take a while.
