I just wanted to find out if anyone had an idea about exactly how many kinds of NEWS exist in the mainstream media? I know there is Political NEWS, Social NEWS, Environmental NEWS, Health NEWS, Hard NEWS and Feature NEWS. But are there more and are they all true NEWS categories, if there are any? Plus, some people say that only political NEWS is NEWS and the rest are features, how much is that true?

Thanks and regards
Imran

I believe you left out Sports News, Economics/Business
News. Sometimes I wish they'd "feature" the news and
leave out the ads/commercials. I bet 50% of the newspaper
and 50% of air time is devoted to ads/commercials.

How about Obituary News? Or is death a feature?

Give news any monicker you wish to. It ain't news 'till it happens. The only sure thing about 'news' is that the word itself was actually coined by using (N)orth, (E)ast, (W)est, (S)outh. That's a fact.
