Our hallway is wood floor. It doesn't squeak but no matter if you tiptoe, have socks on to muffle the sound, or walk very slowly, the floor catches ever step you make and wakes the kids when they are sleeping. We have no choice as to walk by their rooms to get to our room or the bathroom. Even tried shutting their door, doesn't work, they still hear us, they are not light sleepers that is about the only thing that wakes them. And then they get upset. How can we keep our noisy feet from waking the kids?

Please don't be rude...

Usually nothing would wake them because we never have been quiet around them but this is a new house and new floors, they do not squeak, just sorta echo. Thanks for your answers.

Putting down a rug runner in our hall really helped cut down on the noise of the wood floors.

it just does that because the house is not settled, you may try to oil the floor, like between the boards, or just walkto one side, but, there isn't much hope, unless you can turn on a radio or tv and get them used to hearing that noise while they sleep, then the sound of footsteps might not wake them up... good luck

When you can do this, Grasshopper, you will truly be a Shaolin priest.

Actually, try putting a carpet runner down the hall. It doesn't have to cover all of the hardwood, and it will deaden the sound so they won't hear you.

Try walking along the edges, close to the walls. The center of the hallway has more "spring" in it, the edges are held down by the walls and don't move as much.
That's how I did it...

How about a long runner carpet?
Fluffy slippers?
We have never been quiet around our son when we lay him down for a nap. Now, ANY noises have no affect on him. He just sleeps away. ;)

Pick yourself up a hall runner carpet. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowes. Just tell them how long you want it and they will cut it right there. The sides are already finished. That should help.

A good wax to protect the floor should keep it supple....if we don't treat our bones with fish oil..i am sure we will creak..
