Hey, Tamali!
A friend once told me that the easiest to consider a name is to open the front door or back door to your home and yell out the name, as if you're calling your youngun' home for supper. My friend swears by this trick to determine the name of your child. I believe this method eliminates many unusual, but beautiful names.

Okay, "Ryley" is a nice name for a boy, but I'm not crazy about the spelling-- "too many 'y's". Try the basic spelling of "Riley"-- it's easier on the eye and on the hand when spelled in print or cursive. The only downside to Ryley or Riley is the "-ey" sound on its ending, like perhaps its a shortened version of something else like "Ryland," which is nice, too, but I'll admit you might have something with "Riley"-- sounds clean, easy, simple yet very different at the same time. It's a good choice for a boy's name. Also, make sure when you say the name include the surname to make certain they flow well. Nothing worse than a great first name that doesn't work at all with the last name.

Back to your question: what is your favorite boy and girl name?

Boy's names: Dashiel, Langston, Casimir (pronounced KAH-zee-meer)-from Saint Casimir, Orlando, Quillen, Lamar

Now, Tamali, "?" is the name singer Prince might name his daughter (lol). I've always loved my late mother's name-- Lorraine/Larain/Laurain (any spelling works).

I am a traditionalist when it comes to names. There are so many lovely name combinations out there that I wouldn't be able to choose an absolute favorite. I named my daughter Diana Lorraine, this was in 1961, long before Princess Diana was a newsmaker. If I had a son, I would have named him Charles David. Also a coincidence, I wasn't thinking of Prince Charles. That's as close as I can come to favorites. There were other names I considered, but they didn't flow as well with the last name.

Favorite names for a girl:
Valencia - it's from the song 'O! Valencia' by The Decemberists.
Helena - I think it's a pretty name, and it was the song 'Helena' by My Chemical Romance.
Ana Maria - A pretty name in general, I like that Ana is spelled A-n-a intead of A-n-n-a and Ana rhymes with banana. Maria is the name of a singer in Azure Ray, Maria Taylor.

Favorite names for a boy:
Sufjan - After the singer Sufjan Stevens.
Conor - After the singer Conor Oberst.
Youssef - An incredibly beautiful Muslim prophet.

Most of these are related to music, and I love music very much.
