*sigh*
As an American teen, I too am perplexed by this. There are people living within our borders who trash talk the country all the time, yet their entire lives revolve around the country, its economy, and its people.
I guess it would be a simple answer: many people hate it simply because, well, its the popular thing to do. Lately, especially since Bush's second term, truly uneducated and ignorant people have been jumping on the bandwagon and dissing Americans with no real REASON for their hatred, just a plain "Because Bush is stupid" etc. etc.
Bush is, I admit, a little...ah...slow would be politically correct, no? But he doesn't represent the entire population of our country - far from it! We are considered lazy, rich, condecending little sloths - and we're not! (well, MOST of us aren't. ;) It's just because that's the way the media is portraying my country lately. I'd like to point out that I am merely fourteen and I am none of the above listed.
So I guess in answer to your question: unless they have a real political qualm with my country, I'd suppose it was just because it's the in thing to say.

First of all, being an American, I have to comment on the difference between other countries and ours. Other countries are very open to other cultures and letting their products and habits diffuse through their own unique place. America, however, is not so open to music or movies from other countries mostly because we were all raised with such a superior attitude.
So just because they take on certain things that are American doesn't really mean anything.
Second of all, there is a difference between hating America and hating Americans.
Why should they like us? Stereotypically, we are loud, obnoxious, and always demand that everything be in English despite the fact that we are not in America.
I love America and the freedoms Americans receive but I do not love roudy tourists that make us all look bad by being close minded and pretending to throw up in a French Restaurant because they see snails.
Just a thought and a different point of view.

So hypocritical for "talking trash" and wearing clothes bought in America.....humm... Not sure what to say.
There is abundant hypocrisy in this country - but your example is quite perplexing.
So you live in Canada - and the majority of people you encounter don't like their neighbors to the south?
But wait are they american or canadian?
Have they ever lived in America?
also I have lived in America my whole life and never seen a "canadian film" as you pose - true I have enjoyed a handful of canadian musicians and comedians however....
But I still don't know what the hell you are talking about.
It sounds like you are an American pretending to be Canadian and trying to make some type of conservative point about loyalty??? It's very hard to decipher so I further deduce that you are still in High School and not doing very well....
Anyway - my confused (canadian?) friend - in my opinion working class citizens do not and should not trust politicians.
They require contant monitoring and steadfast vigil if we are to protect our national resources from those we put in place to govern. It's a fundamental element of living in a liberated society.
Therefore what you term as "talking trash" typically stems from sincere social issues that the public has a responsiblity to address in an open forum.

Well Americans I believe are the biggest hypocrits of all... For example, society says no to immigrants, no to foreign workers, but we will wear clothes that women and children in sweat shops have made for less a couples of dollars if that. Also we have illegal immigrants working fields in our country in sometimes deplorable conditions, yet we don't want them here. We will talk trash about differnt races of people in our country and the next day use their slang as if it's the best thing since sliced bread (ex 24/7), eat their food(Mexican,Asian), and listen to their music(hiphop, raggateon, etc). I find that pretty preplexing...

I think at some point Canadians felt overrun by American culture in the sense that they (I'm an American raised partly in Canada) were struggling to have an identity and level of accomplishment of their own- in the form of music, literature, movies, etc. We in Canada were completely inundated with the American media and influenced by it to a very large extent.
I don't know how much of it you're hearing, but I heard very little except in the area of politics.

Jealousy is a great motivater. They talk trash, then they come over here with every cousin, aunt, uncle and grandparent. Then they dress like us, wear western style jeans, and enjoy America. We shouldn't grant any more green cards, or let anyone else move here who feels this way. If you feel this way, stay in your own country, where when you talk trash you can be locked up and beaten every hour on the hour.

No, of course you aren't alone. They also will risk all they have to come to the US, too. It's just mindless scapegoat-ism. Their own economies and cultures are often a shambles and they need someone to blame besides themselves or their leaders, so they pick on the US. It's just like bullying: they pick on the one that everyone else picks on, the one that usually doesn't fight back. If the US was the "bad guy" that the other countries try to portray it to be, we'd have invaded and subjugated them all long ago.

People are made to make fun of someone else since we all want to feel superior than others in some ways. It's very natural. Plus, I see Americans doing that to someone else as well. Who cares, really?

no longer all Republicans are non secular nuts or homophobes. I take place to be good-wing on each thing different than faith and homosexuality (i'd oppose gay marriage and gay adoption, yet no longer homosexuality customarily). McCain actual looks fairly reasonable on homosexuality and his faith would not hasn't truly factored plenty into his politics interior the previous (in fact, he frequently would not get alongside with non secular leaders). additionally, i'm valuable many Democrats would take concern with the accusation of elitism, quite the African American servicewoman who's a chum of mine and with whom i'm getting into many debates. fact is that governments would desire to impose some barriers on society so as to sell order and deter lawlessness. In a democratic society, government is likewise an expression of subculture and philosophy, what's suitable morality and what isn't. Freedom to do despite you prefer is anarchy. the government can not please all people while it is composed of cultural sensibilities. you will desire to tolerate some issues you do unlike, in hopes that the time-honored public of government regulations are issues that are, on your view, stable. in case you may no longer stand your u . s .'s subculture and rule of regulation, then you would desire to the two exchange into an agent of exchange via entering into politics, or evaluate going someplace else.

I really hate anti-americans, they are such trash.
anyways I can see why Canada hates america (being our neighbor theres bound to always be disputes) but Europeans hating America truly puzzles me. DIdn't France slaughter tons of algerians for a few extra $$$? Yet now they hate us for Iraqi war (which isn't even for oil!). Aren't Russians still killing innocent chechens who just wish to leave Russia? Yet all we hear from Euro-land is how bad USA is.
