Her parents were Owen and Minerva Breedlove...former slaves. C.J. was orphaned at the age of 7, so that may be why it's hard to find info on her parents.

Owen and Minerva Breedlove. Her parents had been slaves on Robert W. Burney's Madison Parish farm which was a battle-staging area during the Civil War for General Ulysses S. Grant and his Union troops. She became an orphan at age 7 when her parents died during an epidemic of yellow fever.

I went to cosmetology school and did some research on her while there. She was born into a slave family and her parents were Owen and Minerva Breedlove, they died when she was about 7 from yellow fever.
