Is there a confidential listener that a teen can go to to speak in confidence about trouble at home, without repurcussion? Teens want to confide and download problems without, in turn, someone coming and talking to the offending parent(s). I'm interested in Santa Cruz County, CA. All sources I'm famiar with are required by law to report abuse. There are teens who won't come forward because of this - but desparately need that listening ear. This is for emotional and physical abuse, not just sexual.

I've noted the number, it can help. This topic came up at a recent Advisory Committee Mtg. I attended. A young woman was referring to her classmates while still at HighSchool. It made us start problem-solving. Thx.

The problem is, that since it is the law, if you talk to someone and give them information that suggests that child abuse is occurring they are, as you know, obligated to report it. The only solution I can think of is to talk to someone anonymously. It might not be as good as talking to someone in person, but have you considered calling a crisis hotline or a teen hotline? You wouldn't have to give your name and that way the things you say cannot be reported. I'm not from California, so I don't know what might be available along those lines, but with a quick search, I found this one:
California Youth Crisis Line 1-800-843-5200
Give it a try. You've got nothing to lose.
