The Groom Lake Base is this top-secret military base located 90 miles north of Las Vegas (which is in Nevada). It's in grid number 51 of the Nevada Test Site, so it's called Area 51. Since then, Area 51 has been thought to be the test center of captured UFOs because of the lights in the night sky.

Area 51 is the designation given to a plot of land in the Nevada desert given as an arbitrary number in relation to nuclear testing. There is an Area 42 for instance - there are a bunch of 'Areas'

Included within Area 51 is a dry lake bed called Groom Lake. Around this dry lake bed is a top secret, highly secured government facility.

1.) Top secret military aircraft research and development. The SR-71 Blackbird Reconnaissance Plane, B-2 Stealth Bomber and the F-117 Stealth Fighter are examples of military aircraft that were developed in secret.
2.) Research of alien spacecraft found in Roswell, NM where 1 is the cover story for a conspiracy to hide evidence of alien visitors.
3.) Other things including or not including 1 and/or 2.

Nobody really knows for sure what happens there except those that actually go there.
