Go to the library and look up the SOA (Sarbanes Oxley Act) of 2002. Also look up the COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations) framework. Additionally, look up the IIA(Institute of Internal Auditors).

Keep in mind that different countries have different controls.
The most wide-spread framework is Sarbanes Oxley here in America.
Japan has JSOX, and the UK has their own version.

The spin off of SOX is SAS70.
