What response times do you use for e-mail?

If somebody new emails me, I try to reply by the next day. If somebody is returning an email, I try to mirror the length of time since I sent mine. So if somebody emails me a week after I emailed him/her, I try to wait a week before I respond. What would you suggest in this regard?

If an email requires a reply, I send a reply as soon as I receive the original, seeing as I have 4 email checkers running, that's pretty quick!

I respond immediately.
I do not see the point of delaying a response.
