most midwest schools take ACT, but any state will take the SAT or ACT. you should take both tests, then schools will be able to have a better judgement on your educational level. and you wouldnt have to find out what state schools take what. good luck

State schools don't really care what test you take. In fact many schools have ignored the Sats because of its new format. George Mason University is one of them (aka the school that skrewed up the betting pools in the last march madness) is one of the school that i live close by. Others include smaller schools or schools that i never heard of (link bellow). SAT is reconized worldwide while the ACT are reconized nationwide. ACTs are more prominant in the west coast, while the SATs are more in the east cost. In fact, a friend of mine who applied to San Diego State, had to take the ACTs. So it is your choice.
ACTs
Reconized throughout all 50 states in state colleges.
You can op out of the writing section
much shorter than the SATs
If you have excellent math scores and your english is average, this is the better test.
Questions are more factual and requires less analysis
Sections are still timed but they are felixble if you have extended time accommedations
SAT
It is a 6 hour test
More analysis problems
You have to do the writing section
Lossing accreditations in some state schools
If you enjoy a lot of fiction and never enjoyed clean cut facts, I would recommend the SATs
But the state schools can take both unless the school you are applying to asks for the specific test.

Usually it is the individual colleges that look at either ACT or SAT scores. It can vary within the state or not. If you are thinking about applying to a certain college, you should ask them what score they prefer.

no longer inevitably, i be conscious of many clever people who did no longer gain this nicely on their first time taking the SAT and that i be conscious of many that did nicely. it is fairly in basic terms a thank you to degree how nicely you could take a attempt and how long you could undergo taking one. Plus, no longer anyone knows one element interior the comparable way. human beings all learn in a different way. Standardized exams do no longer fairly take that under consideration so some distance as i be conscious of. they only tutor you different suggestions for taking the attempt so which you will come across one that is appropriate for you.
