If you have £300,000 cash, a house, and you are only 45, would you consider retirement? Would you find guilty retiring so young? What would you do after retirement?

OF COURSE I WOULD, no hesitation, I just wish I could win the lottery. No I wouldn't feel guilty, and I would move to the coast. Possibly do a little voluntary work for a hospital or day center.

I am 54 and retired as wee set out to do at 50 for life is so short. When you retire at the start it seems very strange that you do not have to get up for work. Then you find other things to interest you old films walking with the dog and even sitting on the patio watching the very very busy world go by.. Everyone is different but if you have the chance and have enough money to keep you living --- go for it. tupenceseaforde

I would not retire completely but I would work in an industry that I completely enjoyed reguardless of the pay. And I would work hours/times that would be convient for me.

I could really consider retirring that early because even with that much money, you can burn through that in 30+ years easily. I would say I would want to wait until 55.

I retired at age 57 because I wanted to. I was tired of my job. I had money saved. I did not have to work, so I quit. I do not regret it. I have enough income to live on. It has been 4 1/2 years, and I have not done a thing in that time.
I really enjoy doing nothing. I am good at it.

If you think you can manage until your state pension, I would say go for it. ...Since I retired I often wonder where I found the time to go to work. Don`t just do nothing do all the things you wanted to when work got in the way. There`s a whole world out there go see some of it....Good Luck.

I don't mean to be rude but you cannot really retire with such a small amount.

Imagine you live in a magic country without inflation.

$300,000.00 in 4 decades is just $7,500.00 annually.

If you are healthy and you don't smoke then you will easily live up to 95 and that means just $6,000.00 annually.

Also in half a century a lot of advances in nanotechnology, biotechnology and medicine could keep you alive for a century and that means just $5,000.00 annually.

Also there is no point if they can open your chest and replace your old heart with a young one if you don't have enough money to pay for the procedure.

We now can give you a new hand.

Perhaps in the future they will give you a leg.

You are going to need a lot of money.

A friend of mine retired at 35 with $10,000,000.00 USD.

I can help you design a retirement plan with several millions at 55 if you want.

Beckham,
at 45, 300kPDs will not last you to death, unless you die next week.
seriously there would be no guilt. after 'retirement' i would reinvent myself.
do the things i didn't so i could get what i got.
life needs to be filled with challenges , not sittting on your buttocks all day . it is a sure fired way to slow death.

i retired at 50, almost six years ago, and now wonder how i found the time to go to work !
in all honesty though, i do miss work, it came extremely hard the first couple of years, pulling your hair out for something to do, but now busier than ever.........lol
bonus is though, you can do it at your own pace and leisure .

Its not enough money unless you also have a pretty substantial pension. Lots of things to do. Buy a sailing boat and travel about. Find out about yourself and your limitations
