I do not agree. Oil producing companies have limited ability to control the price of oil. The oil producers certainly do not "fix" the price of oil.
Oil is an internationally traded commodity. Price depends on availability.
There is nothing to "bargain" over. The OPEC people do what they do to protect their interests. The US has no control over their faulty reasoning.

I'm sure it will get up there, but I don't know about within the year. We need to be collecting some oil from Iraq in repayment for rebuilding their country and while we're at it, collect some from Mexico for paying all the damn expenses for their illegal immigrants into the US.

we might but the solution is for our country to use less gas. it's ridiculous and embarrassing that we are putting money into the purses of regimes that hate us, not to mention enriching the already rich oil companies that are fleecing us. it is supply and demand. price will go down if we use less. consumers carry a large part of the responsibility for this. get rid of your gas guzzlers, America. Buy electrics, economy cars or hybrids Demand for fuel goes down, our environment is better, and we aren't kissing up to oil anymore.

$5.00 within a year? I do NOT agree with that at all. Gas prices are not high if you factor in inflation.

Only if the oil companies feel they need record profits for each subsequent quarter.
