I've been logging the details of my fuel consumption of two cars for six months. I've established values for average mpg, $/mile, and total $ spent. Should I continue? Is anybody else here logging these details on their cars?

Since an increased fuel consumption is often a sign of some sort of a problem, it's helpful to have a logbook. I do such checks once in a while, just not all the time.

Keep in mind that the temperature and the type of engine oil that's currently in your car, tire pressure etc will affect the fuel consumption, making it a less valuable predictor of the car's health. But it's still worth doing, at least you'll catch major things.

It might also help you put a dollar value on the particular car use schedule (we are using an SUV and a small car for various purposes, and never drive the SUV unless it's strictly necessary).

hmm the way u described ur bf shows that he's a nice guy.. n it seems that u also care a lot about him. To avoid complicating the matters, better 4get everything n move 4ward.. N it is really important in a rel that u r able 2 tell him about ur actual feelings without any hesitations.. if u've always struggled in telling him how u feel, then its a compromise. Mayb u should focus on removing that hesistation barrier between u two.. All the best :)

I don't log it but I do track my fuel consumption on an estimated basis as well as, $/mile, total $ spent. This is important to be able to predict if your car is experiencing problems or is about to have major problems due to changes in gas mileage. It can also be used to show that a repair was done incorrectly or that you received bad gas at a service station.

I write down the miles on each gas receipt as I track it all for work purposes. I don't look at it often, few times a year I'll take at least 6 fill ups worth and do the math and see what I am running.

It is a good tool to test theories on how you drive. Since I drive a certain path for work I tracked windows down to windows up with AC to cruise control to no cruise control.

I at least learned for how I drive, where, etc....that windows up with AC on and cruise control is how I save the most gas. I use cruise just about any time I am on the freeway, set it at 70 and just sit.

you could try a fuel injector cleaning and see what differance it makes to your car.. depending on the age of the car and see if it offers any real gas milage to your car... let us know..

by the way .. i would only use the $5.00 one from the store

other than that,.. you more than have enough info on your car

Since you have been doing it for so long, you will have a good idea whats going on without logging every thing.

Sure. Why don't you go ahead and tell us what cars and the average mileage you get. Might help others....
