it does this every now and then. i will restart my computer just bc of it going too slow, and once i get online, i will go try to go to 2 different websites and it wont let me see anything. i'll try to play a game at shockwave and it wont let me load a game. then i'll try to go to perezhilton.com and it wont load any pics. and then every once in awhile i'll go to myspace and it wont load pics there either. so nothing will load today, but if i give my computer like a couple of days, everything will be working right? is it just like a virus i have?? whats going on??

Any wierd, erratic behavior exhibited by your computer could very likely be a virus. You NEED anti-virus software. It's SO important. A lot of people blow it off because of the cost, but what's the cost of losing everything on your 'puter? There's a free one out there call AVG anti-virus that lots of people swear by.
We have Norton Internet Security, so I've never tried it. A lot of people don't like MY anti-virus program, though, but we like it.

Here's a link to AVG:

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

Here's a link to the lavasoft page. Download the free Ad-Aware program also. It will scan for adware, malware, etc.

You can go here for a free virus scan of your computer:

Hope this helps!

A clean computer is key to a faster computer. Run the 3 scans below.

Run a virus scan weekly.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virus...

Run Spybot and Adaware weekly.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/... . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...

Now lets clean up your registry.

Run RegScrubXP weekly. Run Cleanup every time you log off.

Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?d...

Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/clea...

Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!

Now lets clean up your disk.

Run a Disk Cleanup 2 times a month. Run Disk Defrag. monthly.

Do a Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag. You can find both of them by following the path below.
Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup. Let it do its thing. You can check every box that has something to delete.
Now follow the same path and do a Disk Defrag. Again just let it do its thing.

Now lets tweak your connection.

If your speed is good I would not mess with it by trying to tweak it. If you do tweak once it is done you should not have to do it every again.

There are many programs out there to do this. I will give you 2 of them.
The first one is TCP Optimizer.

Description: The TCP Optimizer is a free, easy Windows program that provides an intuitive interface for tuning and optimizing your Internet connection. There is no installation required, just download and run.

http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php....

You can get support for the best way to set it up right from their forum http://forums.speedguide.net/

The second one is Cablenut.

Windows XP tested and approved

CableNut is a tool for optimizing your Internet Connection. We have provided a way to tweak any option you may want to in the adjuster. You can load "CableNut Custom Setting" files that are included with the program to tweak your Internet connection.

http://www.cablenut.com/

Again support is available right from their forum.http://www.broadbandnuts.com/index.php?p...

All programs are FREE!

After applying the suggestions above you will have a clean and faster computer. Enjoy.

I assume you have an antivirus program on your pc to check for viruses. I use avg and it is a free download at the site listed below. You may have spyware or adware on your pc that is slowing it down .I use Xoftspy to remove it from my pc .I have found on my pc that lack of memory will cause pages not to open and pictures not to load . Every now and then you need to clear your temporary internet files and also shut down your pc to free up memory. Hopefully that will help you with your problem .

It could be a virus. Buying virus-scanning software from Norton or Symantec is never a bad idea. It will scan your computer for existing viruses and also protect your computer from future virus threats. Unfortunately, it costs about $60.00 to buy it. There are probably cheaper antivirus products, I just don't know of any.

could be spyware too. Run ad-aware from Lavasoft(a free download) thru your machine first. Then run ewido (another freebie). You should get antivirus protection too, or at least run the free trial if they have it. And leave it alone while it is doing this too....stay off-line. If it was a virus, they don't let up....they kill permanently.

if your using IE5.5 or higher it could be your security settings that are denying you access to sites
open IE go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>SECURITY tab
look around in there and make sure that your settings dont conflict with the way you surf the net
to high and you cant do jack on the net
to low and your fresh meat to hackers

...... give ..... Spyware Doctor.... a go.... Try their 30 day free trial package, with no obligation's.... It's excellent, and if there's spyware, viruse's, malware, or anything of that nature, it will find it, isolate it, and zap it to smithereen's.... Norton Security's no good... I had it on my system, and it stuffed up my computer's... Try Spyware Doctor's free trial.... If there's bug's in your system,... it will find them,.. and they're zapped.....
