Remember to do the math, sometimes it is cheaper to pay the minimum service than cancel.

You can but usually the cancellation fee is equivalent to the cost per month x the no of months left on the contract. If you want to cancel, your best bet is to reduce your line rental to the lowest tariff available - that should minimise the cancellation fee that you will have to pay.

I have previously gone into phones 4 u though, with 5 months remaining on my contract, and they set me up a new contract phone and gave me a cheque to cover the last 3 months of my current contract. I had to pay the remaining 2 months, but reduced the line rental so it was relatively cheap (also got several free months on my new contract to in actual fact they saved me some £)

If you did a contract for longer than 6 months, which I can pretty much guarantee you did...you will have to pay a cancellaton fee to the company you are going through. The cancellation fees are usually around $200.

Read the contract you signed. Some are 1 or 2 years, and have a hefty fee if you cancel early.

Check your contract. I am guessing the penalty is around $200 to $300 if you can do it at all. This particularly true if you got a subsidized cell phone with the package. If they gave you a $500 Razr for $99, they will want to get their money out of the deal.

Normally they will let you cancel, but they make you pay a ridiculous cancellation fee. Like hundreds of dollars.

Yes..... if you pay them for the other 6 in advance....

What you can do is lower it to the bare minimum contract and just pay that off!

or

Tell them you can no longer afford to pay at all at your current level and they may come up with a deal.....
