Not banned, but it is certainly a most ridiculous retailer-driven event. The florists, greeting card companies, underwear manufacturers, and candy makers are all pushing this like sin. I say screw it.

There is no reason to ban Valentine's day. It's a harmless holiday, that mainly exists for people who are in love to have a romantic date, or for people to take the opportunity to express love to those around them. The little kids in school have a fun time giving and receiving Valentine's. Candy is involved.
Although Valentine's day might also make those who are lonely or feeling unloved notice their sad plight all the more, it is also a chance for someone to reach out to those who have been feeling lonely. It gives us an excuse to be kind and extra loving.
I feel like the positive outcomes of a Valentine's day well spent far outweigh the negative.

My daughter is loving all the decorations everywhere so much I would never say have it banned if people do not like it they do not have to celebrate it. Personally I do not like Halloween I never have celebrated it I never will. People can ignore all the hype and just have a regular day on Feb 14 if that is what they wish. BTW Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Do you want to ban Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Halloween, and 4th of July too? Valentines day celebrates love and friendship...and its not required that YOU celebrate it so whats the big deal?

because it is good to celebrate the very first lengthening of days and all that this time holds for eros.
this is the first time I've got a woman in my life who truly loves me & it makes up for all the previous valentines days that sucked.
so I think love should be given a chance & if we are all truly honest then all will be able to be in the loving relationship that is needed.

Sometimes I do. It was always awful at school when the popular kids got all the valentines and the others spent the day miserable. At school, yes, but regularly, no. I mean, if we all had a valentine, we'd love the holiday too, right?!

No, it shouldn't be banned. Though love should be celebrated every day, we sometimes forget to show our feelings. Were busy with careers, school, family and a host of other stuff. Somewhere in that quagmire, "I love you" gets taken for granted. It is a good day because it promotes love!!!

I like the sentiment, but it doesn't need to be regimented or controlled by corporate money mongers.
We had our "valentines" this weekend. I got a hand written love letter and a new bird.
You don't have to buy roses and cheap crap to celebrate being together!
