Of course, why wouldn't they? But they probably don't idolize them as much now that they are closer to their level. They probably idolized them more when they were younger and not into AHL yet. But with players like Brendan Shanahan, Jaromir Jagr, Joe Sakic, Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, and many others.. including the newer superstars.. as in Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Alexander Ovechkin, Jordan Staal, these guys are all idols for the young people who watch/like hockey.

Back when Gary Roberts was on the Leafs the players on the St Johns farm team wore a crest that had the letters GRH. This stood for Gary Roberts Hockey. It was supposed to have the effect on the players to play with the grit, desire and determination that Roberts showed every game.
This is just one example but my answer would be yes and no depending on the AHL player. Many players in the AHL have NHL experience and may be down for salary cap reasons, conditioning etc. This type of player would not idolize an NHL superstar as he may have been one in the past. I would say the younger and more impressionable the player the more he would idolize the NHL superstars.

I doubt most of them "idolize" NHL players anymore because they've realized that NHLers aren't gods, just very good at the same thing they do themselves. But players at all levels are still fans, and they can still look up to the best, most exciting players.
