Is this something a novice can do? Has anyone done it before who can give me tips? Thanks.

i had the same problem with my 2000 mustang and let me tell u....changing a bumper is no easy thing. i started off by myself and ended up in a shop. there is a tool kit that u can buy to change the bumper.
and if you are just asking about the black flexible cover that u put on to protect it....well thats real simple to do but u will need two people to do. that is something u can do...if you buy it brand new it will come with step by step direction but before you buy it make sure it will fit. i would suggest that u don't put the cover on....it ruins the paint job over time and it will look hideous.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing.

I'm going to have it done professionally (it's expensive) because it's not something I want to fool around with myself. I don't have the tools necessary and if I mess up during the installation process the car will look like sh*t and it'll have to stay looking like that until someone can bail me out.

To me, it's worth paying for the install.
