its a 99 grand prix. when i took it to have it looked at they told me that it would be over a thousand dollars but everyone is telling me that it's easy to fix and that i could do it myself.
what is liquid glass and could it repair a cracked manifold?

okay i thiink it might be the intake i'm not sure. it caused antifreeze to leak into the oil. i know how to fix the oil part but not the manifold. alot of people have told me about liquid glass but i don't know.
i need the cheapest way. it's just a crack that cause the antifreeze to leak out into the oil??

Over a thousand to fix.. sounds like that is very high priced. I'd try another shop or you could repair it yourself. Replace the manifold with a new one, find one at a salvage yard or maybe if the crack is not to bad you could have a welding shop repair it. Good luck as I believe you could repair/replace it yourself.

With the additional information you provided, my answer is now probably incorrect. You may now have a major problem and the over a thousand dollars is not unreal if you have a shop do it.

Consider a trip to your local junkyard for a replacement manifold (intake or exhaust). Your vehicle is old enough that there will be some in there by now. Your local yard may not have it but most have access to a national parts database. I've never had to deal with a cracked manifold so I can't say that liquid glass or JB Weld will fix it. As for the anti-freeze leaking into the oil, as Jeffry S. points out, the manifolds are unrelated to anti-freeze. You could have a simple head gasket issue (cheap part but expensive for a garage to replace due to labor) or it could be a cracked cylinder head (are you sure you aren't confusing manifold with the cylinder head?). I hope it isn't the cylinder head that is cracked as that can run you a couple hundred dollars to repair (with a likely replacement of the head...might as well as the expensive part is the labor...get the timing belt replaced too if applicable).

Are you sure it's the manifold that is cracked. Because neither the intake nor the exhaust manifold should cause antifreeze to leak into your oil. Sounds more like a cracked block.

really depends on your auto repair knowledge... might try one of those free est. places just to see what it is...

Midas
Meineke
they are free... and you get another est..
they could fix it or.. you can try the junk yard and try it yourself...

really they are not that hard.. the hardest part for a shadetree is getting to it.. if you dont have a rack to drive on... then it is a VERY tight fit for most cars.. and then there are the tools you need.... again.. if you dont play around cars to much.. I would bet you dont have the tools needed, but I hear Auto zone will rent tools to you for 1/2 the retail price...

good luck to you

Depends....Are you talking about the intake manifold (black plastic)?

If so, you MAY be able to patch the crack with epoxy and fiberglass tape.
You weren't very specific in your question.
