Yeah--Valentine's Day is as Christian as Groundhog Day, Halloween, and all the other pagan holidays that the early Catholic Church hijacked in order to get more supporters.
Check out:
* Lupercalia (celebrated Feb. 15)
* The Festival of Juno Februa
Oh--and many liberals *are* Christian. Just not me :-)

I will not be celebrating it, but not because of it's religious history. Valentine's Day (does anyone really refer to it as St. Valentine's Day anymore unless they are trying to get a rise out of non-Christians?). Question for the asker - without consulting any outside source (internet, encyclopedia, etc) would you even be able to describe the religious connotation of the holiday?
Anymore, the holiday is an excuse for candy and flower companies to make a fortune off of forcing people to bestow gifts upon their significant others. Why does anyone need a day to be forced to show their love? Why not show your love and appreciation every day of the year? My finacee is fully aware that I do not celebrate or honor Valentine's Day and not to expect anything. Instead, I spend every day of my life showing her that she is important and valued. If your husband or boyfriend needs to be forced to shower you with flowers, maybe there is a reason for that? maybe you arent' worthy of it without needing a day to expect it? Maybe if you spent less time on here trying to think up useless questions aimed soley at stirring up trouble and paying attention to him, he would feel more like loving you throughout the year. I'll check back in on you March 17th.

Yeah, it's about as Christian as Christmas is these days. But good job for knowing that it used to be a Christian holiday. And that's pretty silly of you to assume that there are no liberal-christians. I'm a conservative athiest. Anyway, my point is that Valentine's Day is a processed, pink blob of all things evil. (and St. Patrick's Day is about getting hammered.) Have a great day!

What does Liberal have to do with Saint Valentine's Day.
It's not a holiday of obligation, thus not a Christian holiday, just Christian origin.
I'll Celebrate my love of life and of the special people in my life.

St. Valentines Day is like many other holidays. They are a conspiracy by the Hallmark greeting card Co. along with various candy companies.
No I will not be celebrating it I shall curse it!

How dare you or any other allegedly Christian person infer that because I am a liberal I am not Christian. I am indeed a Christian. I am also a patriot who has served his nation in time of need as a proud member of the United States Air Force. If you can get past your assumed superiority of faith for just a moment you might want to pick up a Bible and see what Christ had to say about judging.
As for you addition: Please tell people that St. Mary's didn't teach you to be judgemental. Judging others is not walking in Christ's footsteps. Doing so the way you are is also not spreading Christ's message.

Will you be celebrating Saint Valentine's day this year? How many chocolates are you having in his name? How many beers for Saint Patricks day?
BTW, I'm not Catholic, why would I celebrate a saint? But I will be having chocolates and kicking back with a nice can of green Monster drink.
