I read that somewhere on here but have never heard that before.

With all my kids I breastfed and didn't get a period until they weaned! How lovely!!!! They were all a year old then. But then again all women are different. Hope this helps.

Yes most women do not get their periods for at least a certain period of time. However a great many things such as pumping, pacifiers and supplimenting can have an effect.

You can also use breastfeeding as a method of birth control, but I can't stress this enough, you must follow the rules. All forms of birth control have rules, afterall condoms wouldn't work well if you inserted them into the vagina like a cervical cap and then had sex. ;-)

Some info on lactational amenorrhea can be found here;

On the average this can be true to a point. The body while it nurses cannot handle another pregnancy, so nature made it that women (supposedly) arent fertile while we nurse.
Reality, however is that a woman can ovulate anytime.. and subsequently get pregnant.. even if she has not started menstruating again since giving birth.
For me, I started to menstruate again once my breastfed baby started solid food. However with the second baby it started back up even though I was solely nursing, so just dont rely on this as a form of birth control

Yes, hallelujah !! I've only had two periods since September 2003 because of either pregnancy or breastfeeding the entire time (two different pregnancies and breastfed babies). I am still breastfeeding my 13-month old son. I have yet to get a preiod since before he was conceived.

It's just one of the many benefits to the mother of breastfeeding!

I breastfed for 18 months, and I still had my period but instead of being 30 days apart they were like 45 or so days apart, also a lot lighter than my regular periods.

I breastfeed my daughter for 4mths. Toward the end of the 4th month I wasn't producing as much, and that is when I started. Hopes this helps alittle.

The moratorium on your period can average about 3 months, but some women go for a shorter lapse, others a longer one.
