I'm having one at the end of March. What should I expect? Did you have any complications afterwards?

I had that done a few years ago, when I was 24. On a scale of 1 (a splinter) to 10 (a broken bone or other such painful thing) I'd put it at a 4 (but because it's your na-na give yourself the extra point and bump it up to a 5!). I had HPV and abnormal cells on my cervix that had to be removed. You get ready like its a normal papsmear. The speculum they use was a bit bigger - not much - but it's usually bigger because it's got a rubber coating on it so that the metal of the speculum does not touch the metal caurterizing device they use to remove the cells on your cervix. They give you a couple shots of novacaine inside you so you don't feel anthing being removed. these shots aren't big, but they do pinch. Then they cut out the cells they need to (this you don't feel due to the novacaine). Then they caurterize the cut inside you so it heals over. (smells like BBQ - ew ;) They put a bit of cotton inside you (like a tampon) after to help with spotting. That day and the next I had cramps, not the worst i've had, but still. I didn't have any complications and my next pap came back clear. If you can, arrange to take the rest of the day off work, or do it on a Friday and lay low over the weekend. I was more emotinally drained and crampy than anything else, but there's nothing wrong with spoiling yourself! Take a few painkillers before the procedure, and ask a friend or family member to go with you so you don't feel all alone. Bring a pad to wear after in case of spotting. I went with a friend of mine just a few weeks ago, and then we got food and movies and hung out in our pjs all afternoon so she was distracted. It's uncomfortable, a littlle painful (depending on your tolerance for a few shots and cramps), generally no fun. but it's not a big procedure, they do it all the time, and there are very few complications. Ask your doc. to explain things as they do them, so you know what to expect next. Good luck! It will be ok!

i had a few LEEP operations last year. I didn't have any real complications with any of mine. The worst of it was the cramping after I was almost doubled over from the cramps. I wouldn't suggest going to back to work that day. I would take it easy and just try to relax. Thats the biggest thing. The procedure its self didn't hurt though. It was like a light bee sting. Good Luck!!

I had one in Oct of 06, it wasn't the best time ever but it wasn't to awful. It was uncomfortable but w/ the numbing medication and then some mortin that I took before really helped w/ the pain. I suffer from Endometriosis so it did cause some cramping, but afterwards I came home and laid down on the heating pad and I was up and moving by the next day.

Good luck.

I had one in 2001, it wasnt so bad, I guess it may depend on if you have been through childbirth. There is a little pain, almost a knawing kind of pain in the lower abs with a black almost soot discharge in the underwear after, as this is radiation in the body. Honestly, sis to sis..I don't know if I wouldve done it again as now that I'm older I think about maybe I shouldve researched more alternative means of correction, or just checked out my options more, ya know? As I think of it as foreign substance in your body, I mean they are burning cells off..I guess it depends on how severe your displaysia, or whatever the case may be is. Just research different methods and ask some docs what the chances are of things clearing up on its own..just have options. Good Luck to you!!!

My sister had to have that done. She took a long weekend and had the surgery done on a Friday. She had to have a friend drive her home. She took it easy over that weekend and was back to work on Monday. She did have a little discomfort and bleed, I;m not sure for how long. For the pain she took an over the counter med.

You will be fine, there are lot of women who have this surgery. My sister is cured and has a clean bill of health.

(((hugs))) and Good luck. :)
