Surely they are only celebrating the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE?
Independence didn't come until 3rd September 1783, following the signing of the Paris treaty? And Congress did not ratify it until 14th January 1784.

That's would be crazy for Britain to celebrate Independance day of America .Most Americans harras Canadians about having Victoria day or even the queen on our currency as up to this day they do not know the history of Canada and that the British even fought them and won in victory .America is not a common wealth country by the way ...

~You're a very angry person. Since you are NOT an AMERICAN, it's none of your business! Ask a stupid question & get a stupid answer!
You have a comment for 4 people already that have answered you, I hope this question doesn't go on for a long time, you'll run out of room to type.
You obviously have a problem with Americans, which is YOUR problem. We're the richest and we're free, get used to it. What we celebrate and when we celebrate is anytime, anyday, at least we celebrate... lol If we decide to celebrate our freedom everyday, it's definitely called for.
Get a life.~

They are celebrating the initial signing of the declaration
- and on that day, it was only signed by two people. Several
days later, the rest of the Continental Congress signed it.

Hey, we all get misty eyed over turkey too. We're a fun
loving nation.

The signing of the declaration was just that declaring that we were henceforth a free nation indebted to the people of America and not some monarch in Europe.

Yes, it is a celebration of our Declaration of Independence, which we subsequently fought for and won. Declaring independence was a significant step, and worthy of celebration.
