People lie to cover the affair. They want their cake and eat it to as the old saying goes. As long as they are happy they don't care, if they have to lie , steal or what every to have the wife and the girlfriend. They lie to both parties , just so they can be happy. They are self centered people who only care about themselves. They don't care who they hurt. They don't care how many lies they have to tell to keep both people under their control , for their own happiness. They will lie to everyone even themselves for why they cheat. The big one is we are just friends. They are just self centered people who don't care about anyone else.

ASK MY HUSBAND. HE'LL LIE STRAIGHT TO MY FACE EVEN WHEN I CATCH HIM RED HANDED.
WHY DO I STAY? BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD AND I DON'T REALLY WANT MY CHILD GROWING UP IN POVERTY.
WHY DO I DO IT? WHAT'S GOOD FOR THE GANDER, IS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE.

My guess is that when a person has an affair and they they are caught, they lie so as not to loose their spouse. I wouldn't say that they lie to save their marriage, they lie so they can deny what they were caught at. they probably want their cake and eat it too.

Most of the time when people go outside of the marriage, they are looking for something that they aren't getting from the marriage. The marriage may not be bad, just something missing. So instead of disrupting the home front (children, spouse), they get what they need elsewhere. That may be sex, attention, time, etc.
Although it's night right, I can understand the concept. Now for those who do it just to do it or to say that they've done it, then they really don't want to be marry.

i believe people who lie about affairs aren't ready to leave their spouse yet, maybe they aren't yet sure of the persons intentions they are cheating on u with. they are often dishonest people, who don't want to take responsibility for their wrongs, because people may blame them and they are just trying to protect their reputations. but i don't think its too save the marriage, it may be that they are not done using their spouse for everything they can get yet. if they wanted to save the marriage they never would have cheated in the first place.

For a number of reasons, to see if they can get away with it, they aren't happy at home, they're greedy, etc. Whatever the reason is, it's wrong. The person can't be trusted and they don't love their spouse. What would God do? People forget about that.

Well some lie about having an affair for the fear of getting black mailed, having the person you're dealing with on the side questioning you and so on and so on. But at the same time it's messed up because that person is in the dark and if the person that's getting cheated on finds out they're gonna attack the person involved wether they know or not first. I personally don't know why people have affairs still because of the show cheaters, private eyes, friends, polygraphs, and HIV. I think that cheaters are selfish and cowards because they can't just leave out of the relationship and if they are married they don't wanna deal with a divorce or paying up for the cheating so they keep it under wraps for their sake and to "think" they're protecting the one that their cheating on.

I agree with the fact that cheaters probably aren't know for their integrity.
I think if someone has an affair and comes to their senses and breaks it off, it serves no purpose to tell the spouse (especially if there are children). By confessing to the spouse, trust is gone and possibly the marriage. I think sometimes it is selfish to unload your burden on your partner just to "feel better" when it would have been best to take your little secret to the grave.

I wouldn't think people who have affairs would be known for their honesty and integrity.
