I have had multiple infected ingrown toenails since I was about 8 yrs old. You will have to go to a podiatrist but you can soak it in warm water right now. My podiatrist always has me use warm water and add a squirt of dawn dishsoap, it will help to kill some of the bacteria. Also if it is really inflamed I think it wouldn't hurt to take a anti-inflamatory like advil.

If the toe is red and swollen and painful to touch and you have a history of ingrown toenails, go to the store and get some stuff for ingrown toenails. It is a liquid that you apply to the corner of the toenail and it kills the pain and softens the nail so that you can dig it out. Or try some orajel liquid, drip some of that into the corner of the nail.
If it is actually an infection rather than just inflammation soak your foot in hot soapy water for 20 minutes 5 - 6 times a day until you see your doctor. Also pour some peroxide into the corner of the nail where the pain is coming from. That will kill some of the bacteria, too.
I've had ingrown toenails for 40 years and they are very painful.
Are you sure it isn't gout? That will cause the toe to swell, turn red, be hot to the touch, and be very painful too.

Youch!! Try a warm soak and tea tree oil. It may smell, but it has wonderful antifungal attributes. If it's an ingrown toenail, you may want to consider calling a health spa. They deal with this kind of thing a lot, and can trim your nail to minimize pressure and relieve the pain. If you have green puss make sure you keep the area really clean (use the tea tree oil on it neat as well) and away from irritation. Good Luck!

If it is an ingrown toenail then all you can do it wait to see the podiatrist and have it cut out. If it is an actual infection, you probably still will ahve to wait to see the doctor to get an antibiotic or lotion but you could try soaking your foot in warm water and epsom salt. It's very soothing.

Is it ingrown? You could soak it in hot water as hot as you can handle, it might soften the skin letting the ingrown nail ease the pressure on the skin.

If you really cannot use any antiseptic/disinfectant, then you could try using a poultice to bring the infection out, and an infusion/extraction of the herb thyme, (thymol), will provide some anti-bacterial effect.
BUT...in the case of serious infection/diseases there is little as effective as "modern" medicine.

Pour Hydrogen Peroxide over it everyday...eventually it will kill off the infection, if it doesn't start to heal on it's own, you might want to consider turning her over to a Great Dane rescue...NEVER JUST DROP A DOG OFF somewhere...it is criminal.
