It's not a weight requirement set in stone. It all has to do with money. Companies want models that will appeal to the largest number of people, because that way their product is seen as more appealing. So the more appealing the model, the more money the company gets. In society, the preferred women have predominantly been petite, so that's what kind of model these fashion companies are looking for.

The answer to that is really very simple, the vanity of people. They set a value on how you look instead of what you are, that's number one. Then in my opinion their clothes are not meant for the average person. The average American is at least 10 to 20 pounds over the average weight. People look and say that's pretty, when its actually deadly. There has been at least 2 models die from not eating and the majority of Americans are on the plump side, go figure. These models are not even health. Talk with your parents or Doctor as what is health or not. Weight is not what you are, not how thin or what style clothes they wear. The clothing manufactures sometimes want to think otherwise. Hope I help you.

There are "tradtional" sizes for "fit models," that work in the fashion showrooms of the designers.

Recently New York City changed sizes for models to:
125 pounds and 5'9" tall.
