Is it a good longterm investment?

Define "long term".

I expect both Sirius and XM to be around for 3 to 5 years, but either one or the other will fold after that or they will merge or something else will come along to supplant them.

In the meantime, you get a few years of not having to listen to idiot DJ's on broadcast radio.

If you mean, "Will this be the last entertainment device I ever buy?" I think the answer is a resounding "no". But if you mean, "will it last a few years" I'd say the answer is "yes".

As to whether Sirius is better than XM...

...I doubt it.

I have Sirius and I like it. But I have no doubt that if I'd wound up with XM I'd have liked it as well. I expect they're both pretty good. I suspect that Sirius is better because XM exists and XM is better because Sirius exists as well.

Sirius and XM are both losing tons of money. While sat radio will likely succeed over the long run, there is a better than even chance that the two existing players will have to merge. Right now they are fighting each other for content and subscribers and that is preventing either of them from building profits high enought to sustain their business model. Either is not an investment, it is a total gamble.
