I think it's something that should certainly be considered for anyone who is thinking of voting for him.
I feel it's something that should keep him from being elected.

The same people who attack Obama on religion attack Governor Romney. No doubt their parents attacked Kennedy in 1960.
The United States enjoys freedom of religion and anyone--Christian (Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox), Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Mormon, atheist, pagan, agnostic, or other should be allowed to run.
In Obama's case, he's a practicing Chrisitan. His father was a Muslim, but that does not seem to have influenced his thinking very much.

Honestly? That is your opportunity to show the world you are willing to end this mess your present administration started, making the world a division between the Christians and the Muslims of the world.
Not being weak, but being brave enought as to put the rules and the non violence agenda again and making the USA be seen as it was before, a land of the progress and equality.

I come from the city with the largest population of muslims/arabics in this country. The discrimination against them is bull#$%^.
They have to check off white on their college aplications and job aplications. They got to where they are at economically on their OWN.
And I appreciate that.
Thus, I would not mind seeing a muslim/islamic president. However, he is mixed, so he might have a different opinion regarding AA that I would not look forward to.
Oh yeah, and that whole taking a pic with the Quran thing with the congressman from south dakota or whatever, that was BS all the same too. IT was a goddamn photograph for christ's sake. He was already sworn in with the BIBLE.
(guy above me: you racist prick)

I don't see how it's even an issue. This is a free country, and you can worship whatever or however you want as long as you don't mess with other people's rights. Being muslim doesn't make you a potential terrorist any more that if you are an Irish catholic. and being a WASP from Texas doesn't necessarily make you an idiot.

His father was a Muslim (and, I believe, was not very involved in Barack Obama's life). His mother, who raised him, was a lapsed Baptist. So your question's kind of moot.
That said, if he *had* a Muslim background, it would not worry me.

I could care less. What I saw on 60 Minutes last night was a bright, competent, charismatic MAN. Heck, he could show up in a t-shirt with 666 on the front of it and I would still vote for him. Heck, we have a supposed Christian in office right now and look how he is screwing everything up. A person's Religion has no bearing on how they will perform in office.

When he first became known to me i liked him, but the more i learn about him and his past, current character traits, the more i find i do not like him.
His decision to run for president is going to spark alot of tension across racial lines it may even cost the democrats the '08 election.
Even today his wife stated on MSNBC he had a good chance at being shot if he went to a store or even a gas station just because he's a black man. Which really opened my eyes.
That show's me that this couple has no business in the whitehouse. They are definately racists.
He has a muslim background. So do alot of people, but that doesn't make them bad people. I more concerned about his racial issues than i am of his religious beliefs.

Doesn't bother me nearly as much as Bush's Nazi background.
Obama currently worships a Jewish carpenter, why not take pot-shots at him about that. Just go ahead and use the "N" word, get it out of your system. You know you wanna...

The diversity of the experience will certainly be to his benefit. That diversity, compared to Bush's phony faith, is a "Godsend."
