I went to Mardi Gras back before Hurricane Katrina and it was lots and lots of fun, but I can't say what it is like now.

My suggestion for anyone who wants to enjoy themselves without getting too crazy or too trampled, is to go before the last three days. Most people don't know Mardi Gras is actually a two week festival and there are many many parades that go on the whole time. Of course, the last weekend is the most packed and crowded with the most events, but it is very hectic.

We went for the last week and found we enjoyed the week days much more. Not as large a crowd, still plenty of room to breath and move, and we still came away with over 50lbs. of beads.

Yes. I used to go every year but I wouldn't go there now. It's too dangerous.

I am going to Mardi Gras in Lafayette, LA this year.
They have all the parades and parties too. My friend lives there and I've gone to Mardi Gras there, many times too.

It is a blast! I'll be there on the 18th, 19th and 20th and come home on the 21st after a long stint of partying.

I can't wait. I always come home with about 15 pounds of beads.

G'day Tiff21xy,

Thanks for the question.

No I haven't but I would like to go both to the New Orleans one and the one in Rio de Janeiro.

There is a Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney which I have watched on TV. It is very colourful even though I am not that way inclined.

Regards

I go to N.O. every year since childhood and I have not been killed yet. I have probably spent at least a year and a half of my life there! No need to worry! Mardi Gras is so much fun and you will be safe. Just like in any city, don't go outside the city limits and DO NOT walk around alone at night. My friend and I were there in December and walked through the Quarter at night without any problems. You must go to N.O. It is such a fabulous city!!

I would LOVE to go back home and attend Mardi Gras. All of my family is going to be on St. Charles Avenue, just like old times.

I have been to Mardi Gras lots of times, but that was before Katrina. I don't think they could pay me to go now.

I've been to New Orleans once, but it wasn't during Mardi Gars. I would like to go there if I could because I'm in college in Cincinnati now.
