As a builder, people are starting to request tankless water heaters moreoften, especially in more expensive homes. They are definitely safe, very efficient, which is why people want them because they save money. They cost more up-front but pay for themselves in the long run because they use less energy than traditional tank water heaters. The on-demand capacity of the heaters makes them especially friendly from an environmental perspective.

They can plug up from well water minerals. Maintenance is complicated and expensive. They are very efficient but not so much more than if you had a regular tank heater which was cold to most of the time until u used it. This means that you turn it on an hour perhaps before you need hot water and then turn it off before you use hot water. So when you are done using the hot water that tank is full of cold water and has no heat to lose up the chimney for a gas water heater.

With electric water heaters, a tank less is senseless because you can insulate an electric water heater very well. The instantaneous electric water heaters also get plugged up with well mienerals

Tankless water heaters are great because the only heat the water when it is needed unlike a regular water heater which heats 40 gallons of water and keeps it hot until it is needed. The only thing you have to be sure of is the amount of water used. Some are made to handle just a few people where as others are meant for a house full of people. You can't go wrong with one. Good luck.
