It seems like the ultimate height of ignorance to think people choose their sexual orientation. I certainly never made a conscious decision as to which gender I am and am not sexually attracted to and could never change this part of me. And thats what sexual orientation is based on - attraction for one gender and not the other (unless you are bi). So it baffles me people can so blindly believe otherwise.

I love all of these answer's about "No scientific evidence" to state that sexual orientation is not biological. Do these people live on this planet, or do they not read or hear watch the news?
There is LOADS of research in this area not only in human but throughout the entire animal kingdom. There is documented homosexuality in exitence among penguins, rams, sheep, horses, elephants, giraffs, monkey's, dogs, birds, the list goes on!
There are also theories about third born sons have a high disposition to being gay, also low testosterone flowing through the brain the male fetus during preganancy may also lead to homosexuality.
Try doing a search on the biological and physiological origins of homosexuality and you will find tons of documented scientific evidence.
And, who's calling who ingnorant?

For most gays, it is a matter of a physiological chemical imbalance. It is their nature to be attracted to the same sex. An interesting study conducted after WWII with rats showed the percentage of homosexuality in the rats increased with physical crowding. Overpopulation triggered a safety device to limit the population growth. Nature's way of telling mankind to stop the infestation.
Some people have close to a 50-50 hormone (bi) balance and they literally don't know which way to swing. The deviates are the ones who just want to get it on with anything in the name of fun & experimentation. I suspect they account for a very small percentage of the gay community. They believe in the "Choioce" theory. The poor people at the opposite ends of the spectrum 99%+ male (problems with agression) and the 99%+ females (sheepish bimbos) who you would consider to be the "perfect" examples of male and female are anything but. Males are females are exact opposites and have only mating in common. Normal is in the range of 70-90%.
The situation is currently not reversible as there are behaviors hard-wired in during the gestation period and hormone treatment only offers partial relief.

There will always an argument between the belief that homosexuality is ingrained and we are born with it (nature) or that we somehow learn homosexual tendencies through life events and conditioning (nurture)
Personally i think that many who believe it is choice are the same that think it can be somehow cured like the common cold and thus it may be easier for some to accept this way. This same reasoning is the one that has led to gays being subjected to hormone injections and ECT in the past and is very dangerous.

For several reasons. They could be part of a religeon (such as Christianity) and state that because of discrimination. Others were raised that way or are simply too ignorent too know/understand.

Being gay is not voluntary. The decision to have sex with someone of the same sex is. I think that's what they mean by "homosexuality is a choice." They want us to be miserable, because clearly self-loathing and hatred are the only ways to a loving God.

Because nothing in science can prove otherwise. Fact is, at some point in time, on some level, we make a choice as to what our ideal mate is, in form, feature, and psyche.

People still believe that it's a choice because there is NO scientific evidence to suggest otherwise. It's amazing how ignorant people sound when they think their fetishes aren't influenced by their environment. Hmmm.... guys who like big butts on girls must have been born that way. Men who are attracted to thin women must have been born that way. Sounds pretty ignorant, huh? It is. Get educated.
