Not under the current circumstances.

So long as there are separating factors like race, religion, countries and greed the outlook is dim.

Peace requires a compassionate loving attitude toward all people, without exception. Until we start to teach this to all of our children from birth it will not happen.

Love and blessings Don

I know this might start some horrible arguement or hate campaign, but I think religion is a big factor.

You have many different groups of people willing to defend (in theory, to the death) their religion and god, and what's more, these religions don't agree on many matters.

Plus, some religions, and most definitely extremists and fundamentalists (of every religion) actually get angry that some people believe in something else - even if they are doing no harm to themselves!

America for example has a huge fundamentalist christian leading, and obviously (if the news is to be believed) parts of the middle east are very strict muslim, to the extent they will blow themselves up to harm others.

Racism is another big one - everyone likes to feel better than other people, whether you realise it or not:

Whether it's coming first in a competition or race.
Having a better car or house than your neighbour.
Feeling intellectually superior to someone else.

For those stupid enough, or with just so little going for them, they can resort to racism. One last thing which no-one can take away from them or will change anytime in their lifetime.

I personally also think the world economy has an odd part to play. Currently, in the west, we have it easy: Cheap(ish) oil, free education, obscene amounts of luxuries and disposable income etc.. To get rid of that and help others up to our level means a drop in our own income and quality of life.

Until you get a situation where everyone wants to work together and be as good as each other (which I've already mentioned, people don't), then you won't find the west stopping it's exploitation of the rest of the world anytime soon.

NB: I hope the west doesn't anytime soon either. As bad as I feel for the people who live on under $1 a day, I think when it came down to it, we'd rather keep our advantage and lead if we could.

I think that not only is it possible, we're getting there. Less wars, fewer participants in the wars, smaller percentage of humanity affected than at any time since we started keeping records..
As the world gets more crowded and more integrated, the benefits of warfare vs trade go down. It is cheaper and easier to pay for goods than to try to seize them at the point of a gun, while modern warfare leaves nothing worth owning behind it. There are a few people and organizations that haven't learned this yet, but their influence is decreasing.
Most of the remaining violence in the world has to do with failure to extend the protection of laws and police to the still unindustrialized areas of the world. We'll be working on that for a while, but making those areas richer as quickly as possible will help a lot.

It is impossible to obtain world peace because we are world filled with different religions, languages, and beliefs. The best we can do is to try to understand the other person's view and try to compromise so that no side totally gets their own way.

I don't think it is impossible. I just don't think right now is the time for it. Lets be real about it. Most of the human caused suffering in this world is attributable to ignorance. So once information becomes more widely available so too will our destiny of world peace.

There are a few reasons. One is religion. Religion creates a lot of conflict throughout the world. It is a cause of much human suffering and division. Greed is another reason. There will always be people in high postions who are willing to exploit others for the sake of financial gain. The last is insanity. There always seem to be some countries in this world that are run by dictator lunatics. They act on personal whims with no regard for the wellfare of those around them. Once you get rid of religion, personal wealth and insanity you will have world peace.

No, not as long as poeple are free to think as they would like to. as long as people believe in different religions there won't be world peace. As long as people are greedy there won't be peace. As long as people believe they are better because of race, religion, status, whatever, there will be no world peace. And as long as people are independent enough to disagree and to question, there won't be world peace. The best we can do is agree to disagree.

Besides, how can you truly appreciate peace if you have no conflict? Or how can you appreciate happiness if you've never been sad? No matter how close we might come to world peace, we won't get it, simply because we won't allow it. There's always going to be someone else who disagrees and pisses everyone else off.

There are people out there with "seared consciences." They do not care about anyone else - only themselves and have no goodwill towards their neighbor or fellow human being. It's impossible to negotiate with such people.

However, there will be "world peace" someday when the Lord Jesus returns. His reign will be manifested and all will have to give an account as to whether or not they submitted to His Lordship or whether they decided to be their own Lord and God. For those that submitted to His reign, they will enjoy peace. For those that didn't, it will be just the beginning of a judgment that will not end.

We are, people , not peaceful within..We do not know peace..Any single of us carrying unrest , contradictions, bad and good attitude, judgment, mindless happiness and grave unhappiness at once...World peace is not possible if its creators have not know themselves...How, tell me neurotics would create Peace around of them outside of them.?..We may create only ourselves and we do...That what you see is a sum total of our existence and activity...Are you peaceful? You might think that you are, you might pretend that you are...Here is a example...are you not happy with world unrest? Congratulation, it is sign of absence of Peace within you..Do you know that all pacifists is most aggressive and disturbing people and organizations ever existed under flags of Peace? Peacekeepers???they carrying huge guns...how ironical...Peace might be obtained individually, but it is not a simple task, not at all...through history seekers was cutting ties with crowd, peace and war makers, leaving to desert, mountains....sometimes never come back...To carry a Peace around warlike crowd would also mean to be a target....

As long as people are unable to agree on everything, there will be misunderstanding and misunderstanding generates conflicts and conflicts generate clashes>After world war 2,many industrial countries had, either to close their armament factories and dismiss their employees(hundreds of thousands) or create, through well studied policies, local , regional or continental conflicts, justifying the purchase by the belligerants of the armaments to protect themselves.
