Only if it gets you into Guiness World Book of Records.

70 wpm is impressive indeed. I'm a medical transcriptionist and I type 112 wpm, but that's after years of practice. I'm sure that once you're in the field, you're speed will increase even more.

70 wpm is more than adequate to get you into any job that requires keyboard skills.

Typing fast is mostly important in getting an idea written while it is still fresh.

There are only few jobs that require the ability to copy text and take dictation that would have been around say 20 years ago. Optical Character Readers (ocr) and Voice Recognition Systems (VRS) make those talent less important.

I type very fast in "stream of consciousness" for writing stories and less fast when I'm writing computer programs. But in both cases the speed allows me to get down the idea before it fades.

I'm 58 and when I was 15 we had to take typing in high school. I could bearly type 60 WPM which was the requirement to pass.

70 WPM is great. Most jobs that require typing skills only ask that you be able to type between 50 and 60 WPM.

It's a good skill, and your speed is above average. Most clerical jobs require a good typing speed, but bear in mind that it has to be accurate.

I type about 120 WPM, and supported myself for a good long time as a transcriptionist.

70 WPM is NOT average. It considerably faster than most folks can type. I can type 120, but that is an exception....I blame my tiny hands !!!!!

Seriously, Dude, that is great, and your skills will improve. Remember that it matters equally how accurate those 70 wpm are.

Unless you are looking for a career as a transcriptionist, your typing speed is pretty low on the list of priorities for most employers. Being able to type IS a good skill considering the amount of computer work, but it is not the most important thing. Employers would much rather have a slow typer who shows up for work every day on time, gets his work done properly and safely, and gets along well with his peers.

Also, typing fast doesn't mean you are writing well. Speed is not nearly as important as accuracy when it comes to communication. Retyping a letter in a minute or two is one thing, researching and writing a report for your boss is quite another.

70 is okay. Not exactly speed-typing, but it's a good number. If you would've asked this question a decade ago I would've said that typing fast is an impressive skill, but so many people are familiar with computers and typing that typing quickly isn't entirely uncommon nowadays. My little cousin who is ten already types very well.

I'm 17, and my average WPM is fairly high as well. Yours isn't so bad, either.

It's not as impressive as it used to be, as today's younger generation are becoming more and more familiar with computers. Their typing speeds are much higher on average, so it's not as impressive anymore.

As long as your accuracy is also very high, then that is good. On a standard typing test, you lose "wpm" for every mistake. Keep practicing though!
