i have an essay to write with the title "With reference to one continent , explain why the impact of AIDS varies"

I am not sure if it is asking me to either explain why the impact varies across that one continent OR why the impact of AIDs varies in comparison to other continents.

thank you

Not a teacher but I did this exact question for my A-level coursework (in which I got an A) - I used Europe and compared how AIDS effects the UK and compaired it to Russia (this unlike Africa would give me the chance to explore variation between LEDCs and MEDCs).

The answer from Veritas was very good. In addition to the availability of a medical support infrastructure, there are two other topics you could mention. Culture and politics play a role.

In many cultures and religions, a person would risk a great deal by admitting having picked up AIDS as it is usually sexually transmitted. There may be cultural barriers either to having sex outside marriage or shame attached to being gay. A religious country's government may also treat sufferers as deserving the infection for having extra-marital relationships and leave them untreated.

Politics also plays a role. A country where a booming international tourist industry earns billions for the economy may try to hide the fact that AIDS exists to avoid losing tourists. On the other hand, drug companies might not sell low price treatments to countries that are political enemies, e.g., Zimbabwe, Iran, North Korea and Syria may find it difficult to obtain enough pharmaceuticals at reasonable prices from the USA owing to current poitical disagreements.

All of these factors show why the impact varies in any continent you choose. The website below gives you statistics for African countries - click on Country Reports when you open the link.

The question is basically asking you to highlight the reasons why 'the impact of AIDS' varies across one particular continent. Therefore, why does AIDS differ so vastly in terms of effect within one continent and not in comparison with other continents.

You're supposed to stick to one continent and write about why the impact of the disease varies within that one continent. What are the variables and how do they impact the transmission/treatment/etc... of AIDS

Yeah, i'd go with the one continent.... Assuming its not in tomorrow, check with a teacher- you'll probably find they give you loads of pointers when you ask them one on one.

There are some really good websites for stats (UNAIDS reports etc) but I would suggest you probably need to note how culture, politics, soc-economics all have varies impacts (ie. In Britain, very few cases of AIDs contracted by blood transfusions BUT it costs something like £40mill p.a for the screening.... lots of countries simply can't afford that).

Thailand introduced some really effective policies worth looking into and I'd probably also mention the fact that in Europe one of the biggest forms of contamination is drug use- never addressed by social policies/ health message etc.

Good luck!

Or, perhaps, the impact of Aids on the individual according to the quality of medical care available to each individual in different parts of that continent. The implication is that it is referring to Africa, and, of course, Africa is divided into many different countries with varying medical and support systems. Also, the spread of information about Aids will vary.

I think that the question is referring to the impact of Aids across one continent, and perhaps, trying to draw out, the fact that it is misleading to talk about Aids in relation to the whole of Africa, because Africa comprises many countries.

There are also many tribal/cultural aspects which, dependant on what they are, could promote the spread of Aids, eg. lack of condoms, or deliberately failing to use condoms.

If that is the full title, it sounds like the first one- you are only supposed to talk about (refer to) one continent, and how within that continent it varies, eg different levels of development, healthcare, lifestyles in different countries in one continent.

I had a instructor, as quickly as he enters the class room, all of us makes a extensive noise. He cherished it additionally. the whole college knows wherein classification the particular instructor is taking classification now. on the comparable time there are some strict instructors. no person dare to make any gestures or sounds in his classification. And the scholars supply nick names to extremely some the teachers, this is likewise a form. And the teachers would have heard their names too, this is exciting. in spite of everything, each instructor knows how the scholars cope with them, simply by fact while they have been additionally scholars.
